SPFL Trust Trophy 22-23

The SPFL Trust Trophy, formerly the Challenge Cup, is a competition traditionally for the clubs outwith the top division of Scottish Professional football.

It was initiated as an annual competition in 1991 following a successful one-off Centenary Cup, which was contested to commemorate 100 years of the Scottish Football League.

The format changed little for the first 25 years of the competition, but from 2016-17 onwards, the Colt or B teams of Premiership clubs have taken part together with invited guests from Northern Ireland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and England.

There were no ‘foreign’ sides last season, but they return this year with The New Saints (Wales), Caernarfon Town (Wales), Linfield (NI) and Cliftonville (NI) all involved.

Raith Rovers are the current holders.
